Best Book of the Term- Harold Maude Have you ever read a book that has changed your life? A book that leaves you feeling motivated and enlightened. â€Å"Harold and Maude† by Colin Higgins does just that. This book is not simply a quirky love story between two unlikely individuals, but about the power of optimism and a unique way of living life, a true inspiration. However, besides the storyline, the writing style of the author has a huge impact in setting the book apart. When considering why the book â€Å"Harold and Maude† is the best book of the term the fundamentals of the writing style have to be taken into account from the points of view to the ending which, all play a crucial role in making the reading experience memorable. First is the use of the third-person omniscient point of view. According to the text, in the third-person omniscient point of view, â€Å"a narrator from â€Å"outside† the story world tells the story.† (WEAL, 45) The advantage of this style is the reader gets a u nique perspective of getting to hear the characters thoughts. For example, â€Å"†¦she listened to the Chopin playing softly. How soothing, she thought†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (Higgins, 2) Here the reader can comprehend the character’s, state of mind as she enjoys the music playing in the background.
